Education

Some children with cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial malformations may also have learning disabilities and various educational challenges. Early diagnosis and intervention are important, as well as being knowledgeable about your child’s educational rights.

Public law 94-142, a federal law, states that every child has the right to a free, appropriate, public education. For some children, this may involve the use of an Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, in which you, your child, your child’s teachers, school administrators, health care providers, and others may participate in creating. Your UF Craniofacial Center team is here to help with questions you may have about educational choices and intervention opportunities for your child.
