About Lauren M Yarholar

Hi, my name is Lauren M. Yarholar, and I’m a craniofacial surgeon. Ever since I was a toddler, I’ve said I wanted to be a doctor. My mom loves to tell people that; it’s something I’ve never changed my mind about!

At first, I thought I would become a pediatrician. But in medical school, I discovered my love for surgery. I enjoyed every part of my training, but craniofacial surgery stood out. I’ve always been fascinated by the face, how it gives each person their unique look and how important it is to both appearance and function. I feel lucky to do work that helps restore both.

One of the things I love most about craniofacial surgery is the chance to build long-term relationships with patients and their families. I often care for kids from the time they are babies all the way into adulthood. That kind of connection is very special to me.

I’m proud to have received national recognition for my research, especially in areas like 3D printing for craniofacial reconstruction. This technology is exciting, and I’m especially interested in how we can use it to help more children in the future. I also work with an amazing team of doctors, nurses and specialists. It truly takes a village to care for these kids, and I learn from my team every day.

In my role as a surgeon, I focus on three main things. First, I work to give each patient kind, personalized care. Second, I teach medical students and residents, hoping to inspire the next generation of surgeons. And third, I do research that can lead to better care and new discoveries.

I’m also proud to be a Native American woman in medicine. I’m a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and I believe representation matters. I hope to inspire young Native students who dream of careers in healthcare.

Helping children around the world is also important to me. I’m involved in global outreach, especially cleft care, and I plan to continue mission work to help kids in underserved areas get the surgery they need.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, my husband, our two little kids and our three dogs. Life at home is full of love, laughter and a little chaos! I also enjoy being outside, especially running, biking and swimming. And I’m a huge college sports fan—go Sooners! I’m excited to be part of the Gator family now too (just don’t tell my dad!).

Being a craniofacial surgeon isn’t just a job for me; it’s a calling. I’m truly honored to care for each child and family I meet.
